Main Floor - 10 1/2' Ceilings

Entry Vestibule 10'x5' - Tile floor, wood paneling, wallpaper, chandelier, wood interior door with glass, lead glass design panels surround both interior and exterior door, solid wood front door.

Foyer 20'x14' - Wood parquet floor with inlaid border design, chandelier, custom wood trim and crown molding, large pocket doors to parlor, large pocket doors to living room, solid paneled door to secondary starcase foyer and ktichen, solid paneled door to dining room and breakfast room, ornate staircase and newel post.

Sitting Room 20'x14' - Wood parquet floor with inlaid border design, hanging lamp, custom wood trim and crown molding, built-in bookcases, 2 windows, fireplace with nested Mercer ceramic tile and wood engraved mantel.
From the entry hall to the left through large pocket doors is the sitting room where the Shank family entertained themseves in the evening in front of a cozy fire.

Parlor 17'x17.6' - Wood parquet floor with inlaid border design, hanging lamp, custom wood trim and crown molding, 2 windows, fireplace with nested Mercer ceramic tile and ornate wood engraved floor-to-ceiling mantel with mounted sconces, pocket doors to entry hall and dining room, glass paneled double door to side porch.
From the entry hall to the right through large pocket doors is the formal Victorian parlor. Refined and elegant, this room was used exclusively for entertaining and socializing. In 1918, the affluent Shank family would have made this the "best dressed" room in the house with several intimate areas for interacting with their guests. In the hot summer they woud open the glass paneled exterior French doors and include the delightful private porch with a small tasteful garden and a fountain whose sounds still help the Middletown summer heat feel several degrees cooler.

Dining Room 21.5'x17' - Shares a set of pocket doors with the parlor, wood parquet floor with inlaid border design, hanging lamp, custom wood trim and crown molding, elegantly decorated with built-in leaded glass china cabinets, 2 wall sconces, bay window on to porch, solid paneled door to hall with transom, solid paneled door to breakfast room with transom.
Handsome, formal and elegant - second only to the parlor in importance, dinner parties and afternoon teas were the most popular manner of entertaining at this time. The Shank family designed this room to impress and when it was time to sit down to dinner, the large parlor pocket doors would open to the guests in the parlor to reveal the lavishly decorated dining room.

Breakfast Room 10'x10' - Wood parquet floor with inlaid border design, hanging lamp, wall sconce, serving window from kitchen with pull down door, wall paper, closet, 2 windows.

Kitchen 17'x17' - Wood floor, ceiling fan, built-in cabinets, butcher block center island, brick oven (decorative), wall oven, gas stove, double sink, 2 windows, door to back porch, door to breakfast room, door to secondary staircase foyer to the second floor and staircase to basement.
Mr. & Mrs. Shank spent little time in this room. It would have been the domain of the cook and wait staff, therefore it is more functional, without the level of ornamentation of the family rooms.

Study 10'x13' - Wood floor, ceiling fan, wood stove, door to kitchen.

Second Floor
Formal Staircase - Ornate custom newel post and bannister, carpeted treads, landing with ornate custom wood work, built-in seats on either side of an expansive stain glass window.

Bedroom 1 17'x13' - Wood floor, hanging lamp, exterior door to porch, closet, 2 windows.
Hall Bathroom 13'x8' - Tile floor, original toilet, original tub, original sink, original shaving sink, partial tile wall, wall sconce, 1 window.
Victorian bathrooms were decorated just like any other room. As with the rest of this extraordinary house, the bathroom is as it existed in 1918, perfectly preserved.

Bedroom 2 17'x13' - Wood floor, hanging lamp, 2 windows, pass-through door to hall with spacious walk in closet and connecting to master suite.
Master Suite 17'x13' - Wood floor, hanging lamp, fireplace, closet, 2 windows, door to foyer.
Master Bath - original sink, original toilet, shower.
Bedroom 4 18'x11' - Wood floor, 1 window, closet (10'x6').

Third Floor
